CAS Medication Safety

Context

Incorrect medicines, incorrect dosages or harmful interactions can significantly compromise patient safety. The systematic improvement of medication processes is therefore a key component of safe healthcare provision. 

The CAS Medication Safety programme at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Bern provides professionals with in-depth knowledge of medication safety. Participants learn to identify areas for optimisation and to initiate, monitor and evaluate measures to improve medication safety within their institutions.

Approach

As part of the CAS programme, the SCDH organises a half-day session with a workshop on simulation-based testing. Participants gain an insight into how the SCDH operates and learn about various ways of examining spaces, processes and their interactions in a realistic manner. Using concrete examples and through group discussion, they explore how simulations can be used to visualise processes, identify weaknesses and test potential improvements before they are implemented.
